Programs & Services

Comprehensive, individualized support for homeless and at-risk veterans โ€” from immediate needs to long-term stability.

Tailored Support for Every Veteran

No two veterans share the same story, and no two support plans should look the same. UHOA begins by identifying each veteran's individual needs, then builds a personalized path that addresses both immediate challenges and long-term goals โ€” with recovery-oriented care at the center of everything we do.

Housing Support & Stabilization

Stable housing is the foundation for everything else. Our team works with veterans to connect them with emergency shelter, transitional housing, and pathways to permanent housing solutions. We also assist with HUD-VASH vouchers and other federal housing programs for veterans.

  • Emergency shelter referrals and warm handoffs
  • Transitional housing navigation
  • HUD-VASH and VA housing voucher assistance
  • Long-term housing stability planning

Workplace Training, Recruitment & Job Placement

Veterans bring extraordinary discipline, leadership, and technical skills to the workforce โ€” skills that too often go unrecognized without the right support. UHOA bridges that gap with hands-on employment services designed for where veterans are today.

  • Resume writing and interview preparation
  • Skills assessment and vocational guidance
  • Direct connections to veteran-friendly employers
  • Job placement follow-through and retention support
  • Access to VA vocational rehabilitation referrals

Life Skills Training

After years in service, reintegrating into civilian daily life can feel overwhelming. Our life skills programming builds the practical tools veterans need to manage a household, maintain their health, and build sustainable independence.

  • Cooking and meal planning
  • Household management and cleaning
  • Budgeting, banking, and financial literacy
  • Health and hygiene habits
  • Community navigation and social skills

Food & Clothing Drives

Meeting immediate needs is the first step. UHOA organizes regular food and clothing distributions throughout the Atlanta area, ensuring that veterans and their families have the essential items they need โ€” now โ€” while longer-term support is being put in place.

  • Regular food distribution events across Atlanta
  • Seasonal clothing drives (winter gear, professional attire)
  • Hygiene product distribution
  • Community partner coordination for broader reach

VA Benefits Advocacy & Education

Over 25 million U.S. veterans are eligible for VA benefits โ€” yet many have never filed a claim or don't know what they qualify for. UHOA demystifies the VA system and helps veterans and their families claim every benefit they've earned.

We place special focus on the Aid and Attendance Pension, a lesser-known but critically important benefit for veterans who need help with daily living activities, and for surviving spouses requiring long-term care assistance.

  • VA benefits eligibility assessment and education
  • Aid & Attendance Pension claims guidance
  • VA healthcare enrollment support
  • Education and GI Bill benefits navigation
  • Mental health services referrals and advocacy
  • Surviving spouse benefits assistance

The Aid & Attendance Pension

The Aid and Attendance (A&A) Pension is one of the most underutilized VA benefits available. It provides monthly payments to eligible wartime veterans and surviving spouses who need help with daily activities like bathing, eating, or dressing โ€” or who live in an assisted living or nursing facility.

Thousands of qualifying veterans and their families miss out on this benefit every year simply because they don't know it exists or don't know how to apply. UHOA's benefits advocates walk you through every step of the process.

๐Ÿ’ก

Who may qualify: Veterans who served at least 90 days of active duty, with at least one day during a wartime period, who have limited income and need assistance with daily living. Surviving spouses of qualifying veterans may also be eligible.
