A 501(c)(3) nonprofit born from the belief that every veteran who served deserves a stable, dignified life when they come home.
To house homeless veterans and provide the support they need to reclaim stable, independent lives.
To increase the number of shelters dedicated to recovery-oriented care for veterans in Georgia.
Unsung Heroes of America was founded by Jermaine Bullard Sr., a U.S. Army veteran from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, who enlisted in July 2001 and served for over a decade. He rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant (E-6), deployed three times to Iraq, and completed two tours in Kuwait — serving as a 19K tank armor crewman and 92W water treatment specialist, stationed in Germany and at Fort Stewart, Fort Riley, and Fort McPherson.
After leaving active duty in 2011, Mr. Bullard continued serving overseas as a Senior Training and Development Specialist, training the Afghan Army in supply chain logistics under U.S. Army regulations. Returning home, he saw firsthand how many of the men and women he had served alongside were falling through the cracks — living on the streets of a region with one of the highest concentrations of need in the country, often carrying the invisible wounds of war.
He founded UHOA in 2016 to answer that need with a small, intensely personal transitional shelter model. Holding a Bachelor's degree in Business Management with graduate study in Organizational Leadership, he personally seeded the organization's first investment. UHOA is currently in launch phase, with a 6–12 bed recovery home opening in Decatur, GA in 2027.
The name says it all: these are unsung heroes — people who served without seeking recognition, and who too often struggle without receiving the help they've earned. UHOA exists to make sure those promises are kept.
Connect With UsThese principles guide everything we do — from the programs we run to the way we treat every veteran who walks through our door.
Every veteran is treated with the respect and honor they deserve. We meet people where they are — without judgment, without barriers.
No two veterans have the same story. We take time to understand each person's unique needs and build a support plan around them.
We focus on recovery-oriented care — addressing housing, employment, mental health, and daily life skills together, not in isolation.
We advocate loudly for veterans' rights to their earned benefits and push back against the systems that too often leave them behind.
We're not just meeting immediate needs — we're building pathways to lasting independence, employment, and community connection.
As a volunteer-driven 501(c)(3), we are committed to using every dollar and every hour of donated time where it matters most — our veterans.
We serve veterans of all branches, eras, and backgrounds who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness in the Atlanta metro area and surrounding communities. Our services are free for eligible veterans.
