Beyond what UHOA provides directly, here are key national and VA resources available to you.
24/7 confidential support for veterans in emotional distress or crisis. Text 838255 or chat at veteranscrisisline.net.
Enroll in VA healthcare benefits. Call or visit va.gov/health-care/apply. Many veterans qualify regardless of discharge status or income.

Employment services and vocational rehabilitation for veterans with service-connected disabilities, including job training and education support.
If you've never used your GI Bill benefits, or think you don't qualify β contact UHOA. Many veterans have unused benefits they don't know about.

No. All of UHOA's direct services are free for eligible veterans. We are a volunteer-driven nonprofit funded by donations and grants. There is no cost to reach out, no cost to receive a needs assessment, and no cost to be connected with our programs.
No referral is needed. Simply call, email, or submit the form on this page, and our team will reach out to you. We'll work around your schedule and circumstances.
VA eligibility depends on your discharge status, but UHOA's services are not limited the same way federal VA programs are. Reach out to us regardless of your discharge status β we'll review what resources you may be able to access and advocate for you where possible. Discharge status upgrades may also be an option in some cases.
Our direct programming is centered in the Atlanta metro area, but if you're outside our region, we'll do our best to connect you with local veteran service organizations, VA resources, and national hotlines. Don't hesitate to reach out β we'll help where we can.
Many veterans are unaware of benefits they've earned, including the Aid and Attendance Pension, VA home loan guarantees, educational benefits (GI Bill), mental health services, caregiver support, and more. UHOA's benefits advocates will sit down with you and do a full review β at no cost. Reach out to schedule a benefits assessment.
Family members, friends, social workers, and others can absolutely reach out on behalf of a veteran. Just call or email us with the veteran's situation and contact information (with their permission when possible), and we'll take it from there.
Whatever you're going through, UHOA is here to walk alongside you. The first step is reaching out.
